The Assistant Building Manager position is responsible for assisting the residents through the activities of daily living according to the resident’s assessment and care plan. This includes engaging with residents, providing and assisting diverse activities as appropriate, while promoting as much resident independence as possible. The Assistant Building Manager maintains a caring attitude towards residents ensuring a safe and clean environment. Additionally, the Assistant Building Manager is responsible for setting a positive can do attitude for every shift, and supporting and providing team members in being successful in completing their daily job responsibilities.

The Assistant Building Manager is a caregiver who demonstrates exceptional leadership qualities on a day-to-day basis. He/she will support the care-giving team, building managers, and the Executive Director. He/she will have good interpersonal skills and be able to give positive feedback to all team members - motivating and inspiring team members to rise to a higher level.



Support the Building Manager in the development of bi-weekly staff schedule

  • Support the development of forecasts of wage expenses
  • Participate in the community’s/building’s On Call rotation
  • Serve as the “backup” to the Building Manager as necessary (e.g., when the Building Manager has taken PTO)
  • Support the Building Manager in monitoring staff attendance and on-time performance; support the Building Manager in connection with the review with the Executive Director/Administrator of bi-weekly time reporting
  • Support the Building Manager in addressing open shift coverage issues, working with the Assistant Manager-Resident Care
  • Assist in providing care to residents (see Resident Assistant job description)
  • Have strong capabilities in using ECP
  • As requested, participate in meetings with Care Teams
  • Participate in weekly meetings with various community-level teams
  • As requested, support facility tours (note, scheduled by the Assistant Manager-External Communications
  • As requested, provide support in connection with interviews with prospective new employees
  • As requested, provide support in connection with new employee orientation training
  • Provide input to the Executive Director/Administrator for how these documents can be more effective and efficient in informing resident care and operations
  • Support the Building Manager in updating and “maintaining” the Program Systems & Safety Procedures Review log for the building
  • Train, mentor, and coach Resident Assistants; provide coaching and real-time feedback and encouragement to caregiver staff
  • Conduct self as a positive role model for all Resident Assistants, supporting the Cottages community and management team
  • Provide support in connection with interviews with prospective new employees
  • Provide support in connection with new employee orientation training
  • Execute other tasks as assigned
